Homework Policy for Room 17

Fourth graders are expected to be responsible for homework assignments on a daily basis. They will be assigned approximately 40 minutes of homework each night. I also believe that reading for at least 20 minutes a night is beneficial for all children and should be a part of their homework regimen. The PTA provides all children with an assignment book in which they should record their homework for each night. Parents have the option to sign the book upon checking nightly assignments. If requested, I will also sign after checking to see that they have recorded the appropriate work.

When students enter the room in the morning the first thing they do is unpack and hand in their homework folders. From there, I can look through and see who has completed the assignments and who has not. If an assignment is not turned in, the child is responsible for recording their incomplete assignment in the Homework Log. They must put it in the kickback folder with their name on it and complete Friday afternoon during kickback time.

Students who have completed all of their homework for the week are allowed to participate in Kickback Friday. During kickback time (approx. 20 min), students can play indoor games, hang out with classmates, draw, etc...or just "kickback and relax"! This is their reward for being responsible for their homework. Students who failed to complete an assignment must work on unfinished h.w. from the week. If the whole class is able to kickback, then they can choose to have a class game, either inside or out, depending on the weather!!
